The Mexican authorities reported the arrest of Omar 'N', who is accused of organized crime and health-related offenses linked to drug trafficking to the United States. The arrest was carried out by elements of the Navy Secretariat (Semar) and the Attorney General's Office (FGR), in coordination with the Secretariat of National Defense (Defensa), the National Guard (GN), and the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). The detention was made 'within the framework of permanent actions to maintain the rule of law' in the region, as a result of investigation and intelligence work. The detainee was transferred to Mexico City, where he is at the disposal of the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) of the FGR, which will continue with the corresponding proceedings. 'With these actions, the institutions of the Security Cabinet reaffirm their commitment to combat organized crime and the trafficking of illicit substances, preventing them from reaching the streets and affecting Mexican youth,' the communiqué concludes. It also reports the arrest in Taxco de Alarcón, Guerrero. Last week, a phone call took place between Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, following the call on Monday, January 12, between President Claudia Sheinbaum and President Donald Trump. On Saturday, the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, recognized the results of bilateral cooperation in security after the arrest in Quintana Roo of Otmane K., a fugitive wanted for electronic fraud and money laundering: 'This case underscores that when we work together […] we can do more, and that criminal actors have no place when our efforts are aligned.' It also mentions the arrest in Pachuca, Hidalgo, of Alejandro R. C., one of the ten most wanted by the FBI, who is sought by authorities in North Carolina for crimes including first-degree murder, armed robbery, vehicle theft, and kidnapping. 'Cooperation, collaboration, and coordination generate real results. This case reflects the impact of those joint efforts,' he said on the matter. The Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs of the Department of State stated that the United States requires Mexico to deliver 'concrete and verifiable' results against drug trafficking, warning that 'a gradual progress in the face of security challenges on the border is unacceptable.' 'Justice will prevail'.
